A NOTE FROM OUR CEO & FOUNDER, MICAH FINK

Christmas seems to start earlier and earlier every year.

It starts with the music that plays on the radio, then retail stores draping their shelves with red and green streamers, followed by Christmas movies running on every other channel. Every December, Christmas feels almost inescapable. The holiday finds its way into our hearts in every aspect of our lives, exchanging gifts with friends and loved ones on the 25th of December every year, but this year feels different.

Everywhere I see people wishing for 2020 to be over and for the New Year to bring some reprieve from the never-ending onslaught of challenges of the previous 12 months. Well, if history tells us anything, this is life, and it's a pretty amazing opportunity that comes around one time and is not a linear experience. In difficult times we only like to count all that went wrong but not all that went right and our happiness.

In 2020 Heroes and Horses refined our approach, began placing roots down, and learned to connect with people differently. Life has a way of freeing us of our own illusions on the vast spectrums of existence we think we control. 2020 has been a proving ground as we learned to trust our intuition, perceiving life beyond what can be seen externally. We have a very unique and special program and process here. No one is here for a job or to do what everyone else is doing, but rather to disrupt systemic failures, old thinking, and process failures that are costing lives. Sure we did an audit, put roots down (more to come in 2021!), refined departments, and built a better, more streamlined organization while saving resources and growing to be good stewards. Of course, this is critical and necessary so we can exist, but that's not why we exist. To build a solid business and nonprofit is a failure if that is all that is done. We are here to invoke change, and elevate what is possible through innovation and a fearless approach.

As we all celebrate in so many various ways, take time this season to reflect on what is truly important and for every blessing in your life. Let your heart be filled with gratitude, hope, and peace. I want to thank each person, family, foundation across the nation who believes in us and supports us. You allow us to continue this mission. I am humbled and grateful for the incredible support and kindness we see every day.

Thank you. I wish everyone a great holiday season.

Humbly and gratefully.

- Micah Fink | Founder/CEO

SAYING ‘GOODBYE’ TO ONE OF OUR TEAM MEMBERS:

Hey, everyone!

Ciera Krinke (H&H Director of Marketing), here! This is a very bittersweet announcement to make: after (almost) 4 years at this incredible organization, I will be departing on December 21st. I am super excited because the reason for this departure is that I am fulfilling a dream to expand my own digital design agency (Digital Box Designs). That said, there is a huge part of me that feels a bit of melancholy around leaving a place that I have come to love so much over the past couple of years. It’s been so wonderful to see H&H grow and innovate, and to see the tremendous impact that this organization has had on our nations veterans, on our local community, and the world. And while I will, of course, miss the organization as a whole, it is really the people I will miss the most. I want to thank all of our donors, volunteers, and supporters for the kindness and support they have show me over the years. I want to thank my colleagues for working so hard, and for being so willing to jump in and lend a hand when I needed it. And I want to thank our Founder/CEO, Micah Fink, for believing in me and my abilities to elevate this company.

I won’t say ‘goodbye’…just ‘see ya later’.

Best,
Ciera Krinke

A HUGE ‘THANK YOU’ TO OUR 2020 CORPORATE AND FOUNDATION SPONSORS:

Our program would not be possible without the ongoing support of some incredible partners.

WAYS TO SUPPORT OUR PROGRAM:

  • Sponsor a member of our herd through our Adopt-A-Horse Program: Our horses and mules are our most valued team members - without them, our program wouldn’t exist. It’s a huge responsibility to make sure that they remain healthy and happy year-around, and our Adopt-A-Horse members make that possible.

  • Purchase a much-needed item from our “Wish List”: As a nonprofit, we rely heavily on in-kind donations – it’s not often that we can just buy what we need. On our “wish list”, you can view the items that we are in need of, and that will allow us to serve our combat veterans as efficiently as possible.

  • Host an independent fundraiser for Heroes and Horses: Our Independent Fundraisers play an enormous role in supporting our organization.

  • Donate: All donations - big, small and in-between - make a significant impact on our ability to continue to run the most innovative and effective veteran reintegration program in the United States
