THE CURRENT SYSTEM IS FAILING VETERANS

IT’S TIME FOR A NEW APPROACH

An interim 2022 report from Operation Deep Dive, led by Duke University, revealed that veteran suicide rates may be far higher, potentially up to 2.4 times greater, than previously reported by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). By analyzing data from multiple states and cross-referencing it with Department of Defense records, the study uncovered that many veteran suicides had not been accurately documented.

OUR VETERANS DON’T NEED MORE HELP

THEY NEED BETTER HELP

Despite the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) allocating $222 million for suicide prevention in 2020, and awarding $52.5 million in grants to community organizations in 2024, the veteran suicide crisis persists. Between 2008 and 2017, over 150,000 veterans died by suicide, highlighting the need for more effective solutions.

Heroes and Horses offers a unique 41-day program that combines wilderness exposure, equine-assisted activities, and personal development to help veterans redefine their purpose and rediscover their inner strength. This experience emphasizes self-reliance and personal growth, steering away from destructive methods like prescription medications and decades of psychotherapy. By engaging veterans in Knowing Thyself, Heroes and Horses provides a transformative experience that addresses the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of healing the whole human.

Throughout the ages of human experience, this holistic approach to healing based in tradition has proven to be effective in helping veterans transition back into civilian life. As the veteran suicide crisis continues to grow exponentially, Heroes and Horses demonstrates an alternative and comprehensive solution in addressing the complex challenges faced by returning service members when they return home.
